Don and Marianne Klekamp honored at Raising of the Green
VISIONS Community Services (VCS) awarded the inaugural "Charity in Action" award to Don and Marianne Klekamp at their annual fundraising event; Raising of the Green. The award recognizes those who love children, care about education, have an abiding sense of helping the less fortunate, and believe it is with hard work and an education that one can break the cycle of poverty. Don and Marianne epitomize the essence of the award for their ongoing practice of truth and charity that has inspired us and whom together have created a VISION for a better community. We all owe them our thanks.
VCS, located in the West End of Cincinnati, provides a combination of services that enable poor families to escape poverty through education. The agency provides nationally accredited early childhood education for children of teen and young moms who either remain in school or maintain employment. Children are provided quality early learning experiences that prepare them to enter kindergarten ready for success as measured by Success by 6 Winning Beginnings and Cincinnati Public School assessments. Mothers develop positive life skills and behaviors, receive support to improve their self-sufficiency, and receive assistance to complete their education, obtain job training and secure meaningful employment. Teen and young parents are taught how to build strong, healthy families and children through positive parenting skills.
